Another batch of figure drawings! They're all between 1 minute to about 5 minutes, maybe a couple of 7-minute-ers sprinkled in too. We had two lovely models these last few times! :D

My instructor had the idea to give the model some kind of prop, and suddenly she appeared from another room with this enormous, creepy skull. I don't think the model knew quite what to do with it; I certainly didn't know what to do with it. This pose I thought was the best, and thankfully I think the drawing agreed.

This is a portrait of a singer who sometimes comes and plays for the class while we draw her. It's fun, but, sweet as she is, she mainly sits like this with her guitar in her lap, so it's very hard to keep up the interest in drawing her in the same pose for 6 hours. This one I was able to milk through about an hour, including several "breaks" I took while drawing it.

Grand Central Station

Over the Thanksgiving week, I went to Grand Central Station in time to see all the travelers looking for all their trains, tickets, and times. Grand Central Station is ripe for spectator sports and a cheap pen.

Attempted some environment sketching, too, but it looks like I went temporarily blind. So I went back to people.

Put One Foot In Front of the Other

We did a session in my Life Drawing class where we just focused on drawing the model's feet. One of the four studies I did isn't here because we had a substitute teacher that day, and she took a drawing from each of us at the end of class. I don't know what she did with them or if she'll give them back! It's okay, though; while I liked the one I gave her, I kept the best for myself. They all took about thirty minutes each.

The First Post

I've created this blog to serve as my sketch depositary, and I hope at some point to transform it into an online portfolio. The blog has been called Ab Hinc, which is a Latin phrase meaning "from here on," which I thought was suitable, since this is kind of like the first step toward my preparing to show potential employers my art. So without too much ado, here are some sketches from my sketchbook to get the art things going!

These characters are two of my newest. They either don't want to be named or names just naturally don't stick to them, because it's been impossible to come up with some for them. I've gone through several variations. Fortunately, they seem quite happy with each other where they are at the moment, so right now I'm just enjoying their company and their strong emotional connection to each other. Right now, they're just my "moody New York" characters. And boy, are they moody.
